Employee portal

Most of what an employee wants from an intranet is five things about themselves, and they are scattered across five systems.

Who opens it

Everyone on the payroll, including the people who do not sit at a desk. That last group is the reason this is worth doing: a portal on a phone, on your own domain, reaches people that a company intranet never has.

What they see

Their own hours and absence. The equipment issued to them and when. The documents that concern them, including the ones they signed. Whatever else your systems already know about their working life and currently answer only by email to a colleague.

Where it comes from

From your HR system, your time registration and your IT asset management. Nothing is re-entered and nothing is maintained twice, which is the failure mode of every intranet that has ever been built.

What it saves you

The queue outside HR and IT for questions that have a factual answer already sitting in a system. It also saves the project of building an intranet, which is usually much larger than the problem it was meant to solve.

What it is not

  • Not an HR system. It holds no employee records of its own.
  • Not an intranet. There is nothing to publish here and no news to keep up to date.
  • Not a second place to maintain. People see what your existing systems already hold about them.
